A .308 bolt with iron sights. Savage 10 FCM Scout.
Looks like a long eye relief scope is required. Detachable box mags (4 round, WTH) I could see the primary being 4, but extras? How about a Pmag version? Had to throw that in:) Mossy makes a .223 that takes STANAG mags, why not .308? Or am I not looking hard enough?
There's the Ruger

Which has these "cheaper" magazine alternatives.

Thanks. Of course, all of these are getting to the price point very near the M1 or AR10 variant.
ReplyDeleteClose, but @ $750, you'd be looking at another $450 to get to a low tier AR10, and about another $2K to get to a "good" one.
ReplyDeleteI did the M1A rouge with a SOCOM II/16 (ditched the 2lbs quad rail and added the scout mount to make it a 16) and wasn't quite thrilled with it. I've been shopping AR10s for about a year now and am still waiting to see what the SP901 from Colt ends up getting priced at.
For a bolt gun, provided the action gets cleaned up a little, that Ruger doesn't look to bad, I just wish it came with a synthetic stock.
My whole problem is that I'm thinking 3+ rifles out. I have other goals in the near term, namely a Mosin that I'm not borrowing, and another 6.8 upper with a scope that isn't a joke. So this is long term plan, unless I find a heck of a deal on one. And the whole mag deal is more along the lines of not being stuck with overpriced, shitty mags. I actually want to handle/shoot one of the Savage hog hunters(? on my phone, may not be the correct model) before I decide on anything.
