Seems to me that it would be damned inconvenient to have to drive to a gun store each and every time you want to hand a gun to a friend to look at. Poorly written laws are poorly written for a reason. Especially when straw purchases and selling guns to prohibited persons are already illegal. Maybe his is trying to show it happens too quickly- move to Illinois. Wait a month or two for your super secret card to be approved.

I made the mistake of leaving the radio on the country hits format station yesterday. When did hit country become an iPod stuck on Emo+Twang? Plus Repeat, because they repeated the same songs every 2 hours.

Now they are hell bent on getting their fingers into one of the last areas they can. Quick check, is it illegal to sell tobacco to a minor? Oh, snap, it is. Banned from Facebook

I follow and or like a ton of people on Facebook. One of whom I follow is a model/photographer that Oleg Volk worked with last year. She recently posted on Facebook that several of her accounts were locked because of a photo she posted with a gun in it. Given that my Facebook news feed has more AR15s pictured at any random time than the average gun shop has in stock, I was intrigued as to exactly what she had posted.

If you are familiar at all with her, um, shooting attire, you will understand that the following link the photo in question on her tumblr account is NSFW. Which might also explain the ban on Facebook. She normally airbrushes the good bits out, so I guess the combo of the gun and the rest of the photo pissed someone off enough to rat her out to the Facebook censors.

Nice parts

I've been following the sagas of people having problems with the AR Stoner BCGs. Look at the ejector from this bolt. You could barely move it with a cartridge hooked in the extractor, and it didn't have full travel.
I swung by Rhine Group, and they swapped the crap ejector out for me. Now it moves freely. Yes, I would rather buy a BCM BCG in a heartbeat. Never in stock when I am looking.

Since they did it for the parts cost, I'll point out they have some rifles in stock. Eagle Arms (sorry, I know they are on the boycott shit list) with non chrome lined barrels. 16" middy. Just under 1k. My opinion, better than a DPMS Sportacle.

Delivery Free Friday

I've had a fun part delivery every day this week. Most were piddly little orders of minor parts or tools, the only reason I made them was that they had just come in stock and aren't available locally. But, then, what is? Today the UPS guy and mail chick get a break.
I also found out my pistol barrel went from processing to backorder-CMMG said it was a normal order when I placed it 5 weeks ago, just that it would have a delay. I was honestly expecting 3 months+, so I guess this is to be expected.
Also, figured out who makes the AR Stoner branded BCG's for Midway. I can't take credit; I found out in a thread on AR15.com.

I like Lee's case length trimmers. They can be a pain to trim large numbers of cases, but they work well.

I did not know the MOE stippling is little Magpul symbols. This will not work on MOE+ grips, they are rubberized. I tried a chunk of rail cover, no dice there, either.

The Mako stock came out like crap. Where my check rests, a lighter streak remains. Of course no PMag. This is a 6.8. Does it look like a LWRCI?

The Iowa house passed a bill blocking criminals and busy bodies from finding out carry permit status. Only 3 Democrats voted against it; one called it "lame." Guess those three also like felons getting guns through straw buyers. They probably figure their constituents will have a harder time stealing guns now, so it is doubly mean to add the provision making straw buying an Iowa felony. Actually, that just means state prosecutors can ignore locally the same laws federal prosecutors ignore nationally. Wonder if Obama and Holder will try to stop enforcement, since it duplicates feral federal law.

Funshow Sunday

Scored all the 300 Blackout in the building again! Yes! A whole 100 preformed cases!

Primers were large rifle, pistol, and priced from OMG to HSYHGTBFKM.  Wolf primers were $35 for 1k, stopped looking at tables that had primers more than $75 per 1K. And you had to by 5k from him to get that price, otherwise it was $10/100. Powder didn't seem bad, for the powders I use, maybe $2 to $3 higher. 1k bags of spent 5.56 brass ran $60 higher than last October.

 The $2000 polymer lower ARs made me grin, especially when two tables down Colt 6920's were only $1300. Pistols seemed $50 to $100 higher. One of the Cock's Dick's Troy rifles was $1800. Do want, even with the funky stock. I wish I had found one when Cock's Dick's was giving them away for $800.

I did find some cheap flashlight mounts, now I see why no one stocks them.

AR uppers with port door and forward assist were around $110 from a vendor I had paid $65ish last year. A solid meh; I picked up an Aero last week to match my lower for the the same price. Stripped lowers ran from $229 to $300 for unremarkable brands. (Aero to Stag)

.223 ran from $0.75 to $1/per round, maybe more, my brain currently filters out prices above $1/per on plinking ammo, if only to not make me hate every vendor in the place.

Magazines existed; many didn't have prices, but I didn't see any insanely priced PMags. Someone had Troy 3 packs for $90

Targeted ad fail

I was trying to explain a meme to my wife. Okay, maybe not a meme, but the goofy Dodge Dart ads where they mention Tom Brady with no other connection to the car. The first ad I found on YouTube (with Worf! I'd never seen that one) had an advertisement for MY credit union. The CU ad preceding the ad was five times longer than the Dart ad. That is genius on the part of Google- providing ads to people wanting to watch ads.

I will say the CU ad was well done- I know the faces of the people from the local branch pretty well, some were in it.

Feinstein has PTSD

So this whole time Diane had been trying to ban guns because she has PTSD. Now it all makes sense. Maybe lawmakers with PTSD shouldn't be allowed more than a symbolic vote. And treat bills that they introduce with a "that's nice, honey" attitude. Legislating laws is dangerous, those things can go off and kill people.

Pistol Lower is together

Put my Aero pistol together last night. A coworker wanted to see how a lower is put together, so I showed him. Took around 10 minutes, didn't even have to chase any pins. Love the 4-40 threaded rear takedown hole. Grabbed a $0.29 screw from Menards , now I won't lose the spring and detent pin if I change pistol tubes/Murphy happens. Finally tried the vice grip method for installing roll pins. Hells yes, that is the way to do it.


McThag noticed that CMMG uses a non-standard grip in their kits- they aren't the only one. I've only bought 1 CMMG kit, but have 2 CMMG style grips. From left to right, MOE+,CMMG, Palmetto?, and Armalite.

CMMG sends all kinds of cool stuff with a lower parts kit and gas tube order. And their kit is almost cheating, everything is bagged and color coded.

Backordered 2-16-2013. Received today. Ordered a barrel 2-9-13 that was "in stock," still haven't any update on that. Yes, the 16" CMMG barrel was an accident, basically.

Bloomberg's Sugary Drink Ban Halted

A New York Supreme Court judge has halted enforcement of Bloomberg's random drink capacity laws. (If local courts in New York are called "Supreme Court" what do they call the next step up? Emperor Courts? Sumdoods in robes?) Because racism, or something. Actually, I think "size rules pulled from ass" was used, but in legal terms.

Bloomberg still has the balls to use the gun control arguments, too. "We're only controlling portion size, not banning them." You are banning drink cups over 16 oz. Yes, you are banning something.

Beggars can't be choosers

In these magazine scarce times, I'm finding myself buying magazines from makers I haven't tried before. For instance, I picked up Thermold 30 round magazines recently. I found they did not drop free when empty. They had excessive mold flash along the back of the mag. A little shaving of the flash let them drop free.

Facebook spam

My Facebook spam has taken a definite Pro-2A stance lately. Way more firearm related ads. Part of the reason I use Google for firearm searches is the lack of spam for firearms- their whiny stance on 2A issues means they make less money for each of my clicks and searches. Maybe Facebook quietly realized the sheer amount of money being spent on guns and gun related stuff was an untapped market. I don't remember it being this prevalent. Or for actual guns and ammo.

Example:
Google just gave me an ad for "port barrels," whatever those are, when I was searching for 11.5" gas port sizes.* Facebook has been hitting me with Luckygunner/Ammo.net ads all day. CCW class ads, stabby thing ads, NRA fundraising stuff.

*Getting annoyed with the ammo sensitivity of my 11.5" barrel, and am looking into what it might take to make it work vs a barrel swap.

How not to build an AR pistol

So, I started to build an AR 15 pistol.

So far, so good, right? If you look closely, it is a CMMG barrel, chambered in 300 AAC Blackout. That is a Kies compensator, no it is not clocked "right," not that it matters other than the wrench flats. It may get replaced, so I'm not too worried about it right now. Armalite (spit) clamp on front sight base.

I don't think the proportions look right for a pistol:

NICS checks down slightly over January, but up, too!

2,309,393 checks in February 2013 versus 2,495,440 checks in January, a 7% drop. So, are 2.3 millions guns the just in time capabilities of the country? Discounting, of course, that no guns I or others bought received a NICS check by virtue of my Permit to Carry Weapons making me good to go at 4473 time.

If you take it on a day by day basis, more checks were done daily in February than in January due to the 3 fewer days. 80498 checks per day in January, 82478 checks per day in February. At this daily pace, 29 to 30 million checks will be done by the end of the year.

I am damn proud of my fellow Americans. Keep it up, folks!

Colorado bans shotguns that can accept tube extenders

The insipid law Colorado Democrats are foisting on their subjects limits shotguns to 8 rounds or "are readily converted to accept more than 8 rounds." Say, why are shotguns subjected to a random lower limit? It would ban my 870. Don't tell the Dems that you can buy stubby shotgun shells that make any shotgun into a "high capacity" shotgun. Wait, they know and will use those when checking for "high capacity" so they can mint new felons.
