I have successfully
not purchased a
barrel that I want for over 24 hrs. I'm thinking, at this point, I need to look into turning my own barrel in a really oddball caliber like 10mm or 45 Auto. Or just settle down and shoot the hell out of what I currently have.

If you're going odd-ball, why not look into the 400 Cor-Bon? I have a 1911 with a barrel in 400C-B, 10mm bullet on a 45ACP case. Quite accurate, but the recoil is distinctly sharper and stronger than 45ACP.
Vagaries of Iowa law. I want it as an FU to the DNR for pistol deer hunting. 10mm, 40 and 45 are legal for deer hunting, among others. All necked cases are banned. Otherwise, I'd just take the 300 and hunt this fall.
The Lone Wolf conversion using Glock magazines is interesting, but is 9mm. Olympic offers it in 40 and 10mm. Read some bad things about those. Even turned down one a while back at $600 for a complete rifle. I would have to have the barrel shortened and change the lower to a virgin to make a pistol.
