2 1000 watt halogen lamps do the trick so far. Yes, I cleaned the barrel and chamber before shooting. At least, I think I did. I'm amazed at the load of crap in the stock. It just weeps out.
Alcohol helps pull it out of the wood. I used a bunch of extra alcohol prep pads on mine- worked great! Fun to shoot and not as much felt recoil as an Enfield.
Thanks- I hope to be doing this to my own rifle soon, not one I'm 'borrowing' from my brother. He is quite happy that it shoots better after I've futzed with it.
