February NICS numbers

I can see the headlines now:

Americans stop buying guns! Common sense has prevailed!

The NICS numbers will be lower than December or January. Why? All the guns are gone. Sold in the past two months. You can't sell what is sold out.

My LGS had maybe 5 pistols and some consignment pieces. Rifles are the same way. The wall of pistols at Sportsman's Warehouse is now the wall of flashlights and accessories, with some single stack 45s and single action pistols for flair. Bass Pro has empty cases.

It is damn tempting to seed every article that will be published with something like this: "No, numbers are down soley because we bought all the guns. Now, come and get them."

Funny parts ordering stories

A certain retailer offers free shipping on certain items, lets call them "knives" and "optics". Some (not all) of these things called knives reduce the shipping on the rest of the order by -more- than the cost of the knife. Needless to say, I am now a knife dealer. ;) Specializing in Ontario (U.S. made!) machetes. Guys at work love cheap machetes.

Some of the money I save goes into the NRA roundup. Combine it with a coupon code (Whiskey Sierra Foxtrot12x0, replace x with 1, 2 or 3 for February) and I got a barrel for less than the barrel's price, shipped with the NRA roundup.

Cuomo wants to make an additional class of "only ones" able to have large capacity magazines besides the police in New York. My title gives it away- filmmakers. How else could they make violent movies for other little crazies to copy if they don't use the real guns?

I don't necessarily subscribe to the theory that exposure to violent movies and games = instant murderers. No more than I subscribe to the theory that having guns makes you a murderer. This almost pisses me off more, it is crony capitalism fascism at its worst- filmmakers donate money to Cuomo, they get special rights.

Buy a Shotgun per Joe Biden

This popped up on Facebook today. Normally, I'm not a fan of the "give a girl a big gun and watch what happens" genre, but here it does make a point. That shotgun has far more recoil than an AR-15.

I received replies from the Governor's office and from Tom Latham. Latham's encouraged me to write my senators. It actually came via USPS. Grassely still has not returned a reply. Harkin sent the expected.

Bloomberg's sugar ban violation costs as much as a tax stamp

It is a $200 fine to serve something that offends Bloomberg. If I lived in a free state, it would cost me $200 for a tax stamp for an SBR, suppressor or machine gun. Just a comparison.

The linked NYPost article states that restaurants cannot even bring pitchers* of soda to a table. Because it is over the 7 round limit 16 ounce serving size. Ah, dictators and intended consequences. Or a 2 liter bottle with a pizza delivery. And there is no grandfather clause Diet Soda Loophole. All self service cups must be 7 rounds 16 ounces or less.

I hope restaurants will allow people to bring in their own cups over 7 rounds 16 oz. Run the soda SWAT teams ragged checking out people BYO sugary drinks. And you can drop a dime via 311. I sense a need for 16 ounce cup holders that are shaped like a 32oz drink.

*I found the proposal on NYCs website. 
Set a maximum size for sugary drinks: Non-alcoholic sugary drinks may not be offered or sold in cups or containers that can contain more than 16 fluid ounces.
 Set a maximum size for self-service cups: Food service establishments may not offer or sell self-service cups that can contain more than 16 fluid ounces.
Set a fine for violations: No more than two hundred dollars for each violation as described in the proposed rule

Calling out retailers

Instead of calling out overpriced retailers, I'd like to call out a retailer I've had a positive experience with. I ordered some parts from Joe Bob Outfitters on a Friday. I had them in my hands on Tuesday, USPS shipping. (Monday was a USPS holiday) Now, they are in Kansas, so Iowa is hardly a long distance to ship. Still, they actually shipped the parts 2 hours after I ordered them. These weren't lowers requiring paperwork, just comps and minor in stock parts. I wonder how they do on a part they are sure to be slammed on, like BCG's and such?
Overall, I am happy with the experience. And I paid for everything with my own money, FTC.
